ABSTRACT
The GSP-21 Legend is an Apple Macintosh® compatible MIDI application which provides a graphical user interface for editing the effects patches in the DigiTech GSP-21 Legend Guitar Sound Processor. The on-screen slider controls and pop-up menus make programming extremely easier, allowing you to be more creative since the sound editing process is so intuitive and fast.
This demo version of the GSP-21 Legend application and documentation is made available as shareware from John Hayes. The application and documentation are copyrighted in their entirety by John Hayes. All rights reserved. Commercial distribution of the application or documentation is expressly prohibited without written permission from John Hayes.
This demo version of the GSP-21 Legend may be freely distributed, provided that a) no fee is charged for the software without my express consent, b) this documentation is always included with the program, and c) the documentation and program remain unaltered.

REQUIREMENTS
GSP-21 Legend requires as a minimum a Macintosh® II, System 7™ (or later), 32-bit Color QuickDraw™, and a monitor at least 640 x 480. It is assumed that you have a DigiTech GSP-21 Legend Guitar Signal Processor, and the necessary MIDI cables to connect it to your Macintosh® computer.
This version of the GSP-21 Legend application is configured to work properly with a DigiTech GSP-21 Legend with ROM version 2.1. (Support for a few other ROM versions is available.)
Apple’s MIDI Manager software is also required, and it is strongly recommended that you use version 2.0. or 2.0.1. If you do not have this software, you can obtain it directly from Apple as part of the Macintosh MIDI Management Tools (APDA™ #M0240LL/D). You may also find the MIDI Manager with other popular music programs.
Instructions for setting up and using the MIDI Manager and PatchBay™ are not included here.
Although designed for color systems, GSP-21 Legend will work on Macintoshes equipped with monochrome monitors.

QUICKSTARTING THE GSP-21 LEGEND
To configure the DigiTech GSP-21 processor, use the UTILITY button to set the MIDI channel to 1. Don't set it to ALL or DISABLED since the DigiTech GSP-21 will not transmit system exclusive data with these settings. Be sure to exit UTILITY mode.
To start GSP-21 Legend application, simply double click on its icon. The documentation is on-line and available by pressing "command" ? or by selecting the "GSP-21 Legend Help…" command under the "balloon help" menu.
Connections to the MIDI Manager will be made automatically. You can also optionally use the PatchBay™ application or desk accessory to connect the GSP-21 Legend’s input and output ports.

COMMON PROBLEMS
PatchBay™ version 2.0.1. seems to "write to nil" when its control panel is opened. This is not a problem unless you are running an extension like "EvenBetterBusError," which interrupts and drops into a debugger on such a condition. If you have any such error reporting debug extensions, simply remove them temporarily from the Extensions folder while using PatchBay™.
As always, system extensions are generally at the root of any problems you might encounter. An "extension-cleanup" might resolve problems you encounter.
Turn AppleTalk® off on the port you choose to connect the MIDI interface.
Make sure that the "Apple MIDI Driver" document is in your System Folder, and that the "MIDI Manager" extension is in your Extensions folder.
Make sure that the DigiTech GSP-21 MIDI channel is is set to a channel between 1 and 16, and NOT set to ALL or DISABLED. Make sure that this assignment matches the assignments in the GSP-21 Legend application.
If you find that the GSP-21 Legend doesn't save your documents, or won't always communicate to the DigiTech GSP-21, but rather yields an odd audible "chirp," it's because it is only a promotional demo version. (See the on-line documentation for a description of the disabled features.)
